Having now coloured plenty more pages with acrylic markers, I've started to get a much better feel for what separates a decent marker from a really good one. That made me particularly interested to see how the ENMY Professional Acrylic Markers compared. These ENMY Professional Acrylic Markers were kindly sent to me by ENMY UK to review, but as always, everything below is based on my own experience using them on real colour by number pages.
I've spent the last few weeks putting the 36-colour set through its paces, and I have to say, they've genuinely impressed me.
Small set, clever colour selection
If you've read any of my other reviews, you'll know I'm usually an advocate for buying as many colours as your budget allows. Colour by number books can require a surprising number of shades, so having more colours generally means less compromise. That's why I was a little sceptical when I opened a set containing just 36 markers. Thankfully, ENMY have done a really good job choosing those colours. The range feels well thought out, with plenty of usable shades rather than lots of colours that are almost identical. I was genuinely surprised by how easily I could complete an entire page without feeling like I was constantly missing colours.
Would I still choose a larger set if I was buying for myself? Absolutely. But considering the size of this set, the variety is much better than I expected.
Coverage and ink flow
This is where these markers really stand out. Compared to my Nicety Acrylic Markers, the ink flow is noticeably more consistent. The paint starts flowing quickly, coverage is more even, and I found myself spending less time going back over areas to even everything out.
Darker colours usually covered perfectly with a single coat, while many of the lighter colours only needed two coats. That's an improvement over my previous markers, where some lighter shades often needed several passes before looking solid.
Mistakes are also easy enough to correct once the paint has dried, with lighter colours doing a respectable job of covering darker mistakes.
Comfortable for longer colouring sessions
One thing I noticed almost immediately was how comfortable these pens are to hold. The barrel feels slightly nicer in the hand than some of the budget options I've used, and after longer colouring sessions they remained comfortable without feeling bulky or awkward.
The nibs also deserve a mention. They feel well made, hold their shape nicely and give good control when working on smaller sections, which is especially important in detailed colour by number books.
My only real criticism
There is one small feature I'd love to see improved. Unlike some markers, there's nowhere to securely place the lid while you're using the pen. It's hardly a deal breaker, but I did find myself putting lids down beside me and occasionally wondering where I'd left them. A simple taper or design that allowed the cap to sit securely on the end of the pen would make an already excellent product even better.
The other consideration is price. You're paying more per marker than many budget brands, especially when comparing smaller sets. However, the improved build quality, smoother ink flow and better overall performance do go some way towards justifying that extra cost.
ENMY Professional Acrylic Markers Review Breakdown
Scoring
Coverage
4.8 / 5One of the strongest areas of these markers. Excellent, consistent ink flow with impressive coverage across most colours. Dark shades generally cover in a single coat, while lighter colours usually need only two.
Comfort
4.9 / 5Comfortable to hold, well balanced and fitted with high-quality nibs that make detailed colouring much easier. They quickly became some of my favourite markers to use for longer colouring sessions.
Colour selection
4.6 / 5For a 36-colour set, the range is genuinely impressive. The colours have clearly been chosen carefully, allowing you to complete far more pages than you'd expect. A larger set will naturally offer more flexibility, but ENMY have made excellent use of the colours available.
Final Verdict
4.7 / 5These are simply really good acrylic markers.
What impressed me most wasn't one standout feature, but how consistently good everything felt. The ink flows well, the coverage is excellent, the nib quality is noticeably better than budget alternatives, and they're genuinely enjoyable to colour with.
They're more expensive than some entry-level brands, so if your priority is simply getting the biggest number of colours for the lowest price, there are cheaper options available. However, if you're looking for better performance and a more premium colouring experience, I think the extra cost is justified.
The 36-colour set has certainly exceeded my expectations, and after using them I'm genuinely interested in trying ENMY's larger sets in the future.
